Course Learning Objectives:
After completing the ACLS course, students should be able to:
- Define systems of care in cardiovascular emergencies
- Apply BLS, Primary, and Secondary Assessments for systematic evaluation of adult patients
- Discuss the use of rapid response teams (RRT) or medical emergency teams (MET) to improve outcomes
- Recognize and manage acute coronary syndromes (ACS) and strokes, including appropriate disposition
- Identify bradycardias and tachycardias that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate resuscitation
- Perform early management of bradycardias, tachycardias, and respiratory arrest
- Recognize cardiac arrest and perform prompt, high-quality BLS, including early chest compressions and AED use
- Deliver early management of cardiac arrest and immediate post-cardiac arrest care
- Evaluate resuscitative efforts by monitoring CPR quality and patient physiologic response
- Model effective communication as a member or leader of a high-performance team
- Recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
